Students must feel safe enough in the classroom to function and learn. They must also feel that the teacher cares about them as people. The classroom should provide the students with responsibility for their own learning but also have the structure students need everyday.
ReplyDeleteCreating a positive learning environment requires the students to feel comfortable in making mistakes. They need to see learning as an ongoing process, not as saying the right answer at one given point. Teachers that show that they are still learning and trying to figure things out will encourage the students to see learning as not just accessible, but also enjoyable and fulfilling. Teachers need to make sure students know that they want them to succeed, and that they aren't just enforcing arbitrary rules. This way students will see how learning is to their benefit.
